A Pale View of Hills (2025), Dream, Hope and Past

Its been a long time since I watch historical genre, and pick up this one randomly feel very good with a little confusing in the end of the film.

Airing on May 15, 2025. This film is based on the 1982 novel by Kazuo Ishiguro that take place between 1950s and 1980s, especially after Nagasaki has been bombed in 1945.

Everyone suffer after war. And this film exactly tell us about it. After Nagasaki get bomb, everyone is scare and the country it just like dying inside.

Beside, there is a lot of western that come to Japan. And Etsuko, is one of the woman that try to make her life being better after that.

Niki, is Etsuko child who live in London and being a writer.
Drop out from university, back to home before her mom selling it. Now she try to recollect her mom memories about Nagasaki in 1950s.

The film is interesting because the plot is present and past.
I do enjoy the film but when the film is about to end, I find this film is a bit confusing, which I still didnt know why the oldest daughter commited suicided.

Jiro, the husband that Etsuko had in the past scene, and the picture of the husband that Etsuko had when she is the mom of Niki and Keiko, it was different as well.
Maybe Keiko is the child from her Japaness husband ?

The story went from good into confusing with the ending that feel like a cliff hanger and not sure at all.
I do enjoy the film very much, even it was slow and a bit boring. But the ending ?
I really didnt get it.

Someone care to explain for me ?
Well, at least I know that the person in the story is Etsuko all the ways. She just make another people come into her story because she may feel ashame of what happen.
